About Courtney

Courtney is a paralegal in the Child Law team. Courtney joined Langleys in January 2021, bringing with her over 8 years prior experience in Criminal defence, Family and Child Law.

Courtney works alongside Laura Sargeant, Nick Barnes, Zoe Cross and Alice Higham at our York office.

Day to day, Courtney provides support to Laura Sargeant, meeting with clients, liaising with the Legal Aid Agency over funding applications, and preparing Court applications, statements, and other case related preparation ready for Court hearings.

Courtney works with parents whose children are the subject of Care Proceedings issued by the Local Authority. She also attends PLO meetings (pre-proceedings meetings aimed at establishing whether it is possible to avoid care proceedings being issued through social services and parents working together) with parents providing them with advice in relation to the issues social services are concerned about in their family.  

Courtney also assists Laura Sargeant with her work on cases where Laura has been instructed to separately represent the child through their Children’s Guardian in Care Proceedings and complex Child Arrangements Order applications.

Courtney particularly enjoys working with parents in Care Proceedings matters.

Extra-curricular

In her spare time, Courtney completing her Degree  with the Open University.

Personal interests

Courtney enjoys running and has previously completed The Great North Run for Alzheimer’s Research UK, and competed in a boxing event for Cancer Research.  Courtney also enjoys reading, and is an avid fan of Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain.
