About Hester

Hester Mills is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Private Client team in our Lincoln office, specialising in wills, inheritance tax, estates and trusts (onshore) for a wide range of clients including high net worth individuals, businesses and farmers. Hester trained with Langleys and has been with the firm since 2012. She qualified as a Solicitor with Langleys in 2014, was promoted to an Associate Solicitor in 2017 and then to Senior Associate Solicitor in 2019.

Hester graduated from the University of Durham with an LLB Law degree in 2011 and went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School in 2012, obtaining a Distinction.

Hester has always enjoyed the law and the fact that it is continually changing and evolving, bringing new challenges and rewards.

Hester provides expert legal advice on all types of private client matters. She specialises in complex will drafting (preparing a wide variety of wills and tailoring to suit an individual's specific circumstances), dealing with the administration of complex, high value estates (including large farming estates and estates with business and international assets) and also trust matters. She also advises in relation to Lasting Powers of Attorney including the preparation and registration of these, deals with probate applications (both complex and simple), administers and manages Trusts and advises high net worth individuals in relation to inheritance tax planning, succession planning and land related issues (including first registrations).

Hester is noted for her excellent interpersonal skills, approachable nature and thorough attention to detail. Hester finds that the most rewarding part of her job is helping those at a often a very difficult time in their life to reach a successful conclusion.

Hester is an affiliate member of STEP and will become a full member once she has  completed three essays.

Recent examples of Hester's experience

  • Administration of Trusts with assets of circa £3million which were created following a successful Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975 claim.
  • Preparing a will for a terminally ill client ensuring their wishes were met and putting in place safeguards including liaising with medical professionals to make a record of mental capacity.
  • Producing a detailed Inheritance Tax and succession planning proposal with an initial potential Inheritance Tax saving of over £800,000 (minimum) whilst ensuring that no Capital Gains Tax immediately crystallised.
  • Advising Trustees to ensure vulnerable beneficiaries receive valuable benefit from Trusts during their lifetime and liaising with other professionals to ensure the Trust is used to make a difference to the lives of the beneficiaries.
  • Advising Executors in relation to a complex and high net worth value estate with significant holdings in farmland.
