Nottinghamshire butcher F Doncaster has acquired Goffs of Southwell, which becomes its third branch.
Founded on Portland Street, Newark, in the 1920s, F Doncaster is owned by Robert Doncaster, the third generation of the family to run the business. He bought a second shop, in Claypole, six years ago.
Robert has now acquired and rebranded Goffs of Southwell following the retirement of former owner Graham Goff. He was advised on this acquisition by Lincoln-based Langleys Solicitors.
F Doncaster has a turnover of £1.5m and serves both retail and wholesale customers.
Robert Doncaster said: “I joined the family business to work with my father in 1984 and took over the reins 14 years ago.
“We hadn’t been targeting Southwell specifically but when Graham called me to discuss his retirement, we saw it as an excellent opportunity.
“We are looking to expand our horizons so if we find other butchers in the Nottinghamshire area that are looking to sell, provided the offering is right, we will look at them.”
Robert said F Doncaster was now looking to grow the retail side of the business and reduce its exposure to the wholesale market.
“Aside from offering high quality, fresh meat to our customers, we are introducing our own pies and pastries, ready-made, fresh meals and selected groceries,” he added.
Peter Horner, partner in the commercial property team at Langleys, said: “F Doncaster is a well-known business in Newark and has a loyal customer base thanks to the quality of its produce and excellent service. We were pleased to help Robert with this latest stage of his expansion.”
