The transformation of York’s former fire station is moving ahead with the formal acquisition of the site by developers.
The Clifford Street Venture has purchased the land which has frontages onto the River Ouse, Peckitt Street and Clifford Street. The site was acquired for £2.9m from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority.
Langleys Solicitors, York, acted on behalf of The Clifford Street Venture which is a joint venture between Helmsley Group investors and London Ebor Developments.
Earlier this year, City of York Council granted planning permission for the 0.35 acre site which will be developed into town houses with parking, apartments and a restaurant.
Four houses will front the River Ouse, three will open on to Peckitt Street and seven apartments will be on Clifford Street. The ground and first floor restaurant will also front Clifford Street.
The development will retain the facades of a 19th century chapel and school which form part of the site.
Paul Spencer, of The Clifford Street Venture, said: “The site is in a very prominent location in the centre of York. We anticipate it will become a landmark development with its aspects of both the river front and Clifford’s Tower.”
The design of the residential development has included securing the site from flooding. Work on the scheme cannot start until York Archaeological Trust has completed the monitoring of water deposits which run beneath the site.
