Medical Law Specialism Recognised by Legal Aid Agency

The medical law team at Langleys Solicitors has been recognised for its specialism in dealing with cerebral palsy claims.

It has retained its legal aid franchise, awarded by the Legal Aid Agency.

While Legal Aid has been limited dramatically over the past few years, it is still possible to apply for a Legal Aid Certificate in relation to an injury occurring to a child at birth or in the first eight weeks of a child’s life.

Sally-Ann Robinson, head of the medical law team at Langleys which has offices in Lincoln and York, said: “These cases are complex because of the need to prove not only that there has been a shortfall in care, but also that this was responsible for the child’s disabilities.

“In awarding us the legal aid franchise, the Legal Aid Agency has recognised the team’s specialism in dealing with such catastrophic brain injury claims.”

As part of the tendering process the Langleys medical law team had to demonstrate its experience in dealing with such claims as it was the Legal Aid Agency’s intention to reduce the number of firms who were able to provide work under the Legal Aid scheme.

Sally-Ann added: “We are very pleased that we were able to meet the Legal Aid Agency’s strict criteria, and as such prove our specialism in this very complex area of law.”
