Lawyer Amy Cowdell has taken part in a scheme which helps prepare young people for the world of work.
Career Ready is a national charity which links employers with schools and colleges. Employer volunteers provide mentoring, workplace visits and internships to 16-19-year-olds taking part in the scheme.
Amy, an associate solicitor in commercial property at Langleys Solicitors, mentored Chloe Cockett, a student at Priory Academy, Lincoln during a two-week internship at the Lincoln law firm.
Amy said: “I was able to show Chloe the range of different options and career paths she could choose. When you host an intern, you see their confidence grow and their horizons broaden, which is very rewarding. At the same time, Langleys gained a good and conscientious temporary employee who was able to assist across many departments in the firm.”
Chloe, 18, is now considering a career in business management and plans to go to university to study sport business management.
She said: “The internship gave me a real insight into law and how an office works from day to day. Amy made the internship flexible and enjoyable by enabling me to work in different departments to widen my knowledge.
“I found it really interesting and learnt so much including transferable skills for the future.”
